I was asked several years ago to become a board member of the “Young Bankers” Advisory board, a division of the CBAA, now called Leadership Community Bankers.  This is when I really got to know the CBAA family and learned to appreciate their passion for the community banking industry in the state of Alabama.  Being raised in a community banking family, I thought I knew the goals and strategies that were needed in the banking market, but seeing the CBAA at work has brought on a whole new prospective for me.  I have learned that the CBAA is constantly seeking the best in technologies, marketing services, and other resources that will keep community banks strong and competitive in the market today.  They are also in the forefront of the political arena, making sure we, as community bankers, are protected and kept abreast of major issues that affect our industry.  Another valued resource is the networking opportunities that are available through the CBAA.  On any given day I can contact a host of community banking friends throughout the state to compare strategies, technologies, and products, and discuss concerns that affect the community banking industry.  These comparisons have proved to be very beneficial in helping us make the right cost effective decisions for our bank.

 

While there are many great qualities that could be noted about the CBAA, my favorite observation is how the staff and board members treat everyone like family.  You can be a community banker from the small town of Red Bay or from a big city like Birmingham and you will be received and helped in the same manner; with respect, professionalism and with a genuine love and concern for the success of your bank and your community.  This is certainly not a trait that you find in other associations today and our bank is proud to be a member of the CBAA!

 

I feel so blessed to have been introduced to the CBAA a number of years ago, as it has been such a rewarding journey!  It has allowed me to grow and excel both personally and in my banking career, from the challenges of banking school to the many opportunities presented through the Leadership division.  I would encourage all community bankers to explore the CBAA and see what valuable resources await you!
